The name Eilish is a modern variation of the ancient Irish name Eilís, itself derived from the Norman French name Alice. Eilís is believed to have originated as a medieval Gaelic form of the Germanic name Adalhaidis, from the roots "adal" meaning noble and "haidis" meaning type or kind.
