Elloise

The name Elloise has its origins in the Old French language, derived from the Germanic name Alia or Alix, which means "noble" or "kind." It first appeared in written records during the Middle Ages, around the 12th century.

One of the earliest recorded instances of the name Elloise can be found in the medieval French epic poem "La Chanson de Roland," written in the late 11th century. In this work, a character named Elloise is mentioned as a noblewoman.

During the Renaissance period, the name gained popularity among the French aristocracy. Notable figures from this era include Elloise de Montfort (1295-1359), a French noblewoman and the wife of Robert III, Count of Dreux.

In the 16th century, Elloise de Valois (1556-1628) was a prominent figure in French history. She was a daughter of King Henry II of France and a highly influential figure at the court of her brother, King Henry III.

The name also has religious connections, as Saint Elloise was a 7th-century Benedictine abbess who founded the Abbey of Sainte-Croix in Poitiers, France. She is celebrated in the Catholic Church on May 24th.

Another notable figure was Elloise de Lusignan (1182-1233), a French noblewoman who became the Queen of Cyprus through her marriage to King Hugh I of Cyprus.
