Lolla

The name Lolla is believed to have originated in ancient Sanskrit, one of the oldest Indo-Aryan languages spoken in South Asia. It is derived from the Sanskrit word "lolā" which means "wavering" or "unsteady." This could suggest a connection to the nature of human emotions or perhaps describe a playful or lively personality.

Some scholars trace the earliest known use of the name Lolla to around the 5th century BCE, during the time of the Vedic period in India. It was found inscribed on ancient pottery shards and clay seals from archaeological sites in the Indus Valley region. However, the specific context and meaning behind its use remain uncertain.

One of the earliest recorded was Lolla Annapurnamma (1180-1245), a Telugu poet and composer who contributed significantly to the Bhakti movement in South India. Another notable figure was Lolla Prasad (1533-1612), a Vaishnava saint and philosopher from present-day Andhra Pradesh.

In the 14th century, Lolla Kavi (1325-1390), a Tamil poet and mystic, gained recognition for her spiritual compositions and teachings on divine love. Her works continue to be widely studied and celebrated in Tamil literature.

During the 16th century, Lolla Ramamatya (1508-1572) was a prominent Telugu scholar and philosopher known for his translations of ancient Sanskrit texts and his commentary on the Bhagavad Gita.

More recently, Lolla Leedlah (1903-1989) was an influential Kurdish poet and activist from modern-day Iraq, whose works explored themes of social justice, feminism, and Kurdish nationalism.
